This really blew me away. I was only six or eight years old when I watched this with my Dad. Late night viewing in pyjamas with hot chocolate. This has always stayed fixed in my head. 1950s science fiction originally written by Ray Bradbury – Directed by Michael Anderson and written by Richard Matheson.
The Church of London are the studio responsible for designing and publishing the fantastic film bi-monthly, Little White Lies which you’re undoubtedly familiar with. Alongside such well-established output they are also responsible for a whole host of great design and art direction projects, and for your viewing pleasure they have had a big update of their site for you to get jealous over. Invigorating to see a print publisher doing so well, hats off chaps.
Great portfolio from Lotta Nieminen, a talented graphic designer who’s also got a fantastic illustration portfolio. Living and working in Helsinki she graduated from the University of Art and Design in Helsinki last year and also spent 2007 at the Rhode Island School of Design in New York.

Dual functionality is the name of the game and if you add in words like “green”, ecofirendly” or “recycle”, the game gets better. What we have here is a simple enough solution to a problem that might not exists;but let’s just go with the flow for a moment. Scenario is that you move often and/or don’t have the resources to furnish your sparse accommodation, so you probably need boxes that can double up as furniture. So when you’re not packing stuff into “Move!”, just rearrange its body to become this seat to park your butt. Configure it at whim, make it a bedside table if you like.
Move is a packing box which can be folded and reused as furniture once it is unpacked. Re-usage and eco-material make Move sustainable and inexpensive at the same time. Corrugated cardboard is bio-degradable, 100% recyclable and yet extremely stable.

MIT researchers have created a swarm of tiny helicopters that behave like fireflies. Each helicopter contains a set of small LEDs and acts as "a smart pixel" that can be moved around in mid-air by remote control. A group of these mechanical fireflies can therefore become a "canvas" that can transform itself from one 3D shape to another or morph into a two-dimensional photographic image.

You take that crib you’ve got there and you transform it into a whole bunch of little person friendly bits of fun! Complete with another bed for that ever-elongating person.
In this furniture amalgamation, the “Smart Kid,” parents will find themselves loving the lack of store-going activities they’ll have to do, and the amount of child-engaging activities their little tikes will have!
Crib, changing table, storage drawers for linens and baby care accessories, changes into a playpen, or a desk with a chalkboard, a bigger bed, sets of drawers apart, everything a kid needs in furniture up to 10 years old.

This is a lamp with a dimmer. Does it look like a dimmer lamp you’ve ever seen before? It reminds me of a lamp I saw in an abandoned house once; it moved up and down smoothly from the ceiling based on how much you pulled down or touched up. Well what do you know, the lamp we’re talking about right now does something very similar! Instead of the lamp moving, this, the “Etirement” lamp, has easily adjustable intensities of light.
Based on an orgaic skin-and-bones body, the Etirement has both: a skin and a skeleton. Pulling the rod you see in the center there adjusts the light the lamp gives off. The intensity of the light lowers down and rises up according to the distortion of the fabric membrane.
The designer of this object, Rémi Bouhaniche, calls the temporary, changing shape of the Etirement “a poetic time from a daily action.”

They are called “Aniballs.” There is a relatively large difference between these golf ball creatures and the testicles of a cow. You can hit them all with a golf club, but only about 6 out of 8 will result in anything more than a kickback to the face. Aniballs! They come in cow, sheep, donkey, pig, goat, and dog. With four feet, a face, and a flight plan. All you need is a club, gravity, and a place to put the ball.
It’s always refreshing to do a 2 ton overground travel truck one day, paragraphs and paragraphs of description, and golfballs with legs the next. The genius of this is that one isn’t more brilliant than the next. These little guys are simple and super.
I’d love a set, and I’d totally play on-road golf with them!
(NOTE: I do not think the designers intend these for breaking windows, caution!)

Paul Smith is a master of the art of adding hints of personality to well designed, classic forms. So, when he was asked to work with product designers Stelton to bring his touch to Arne Jacobsen’s Cylinda and Cocktail collections, it won’t surprise you to hear that he’s not gone over the top. The crisp, block colours and some well placed engraving show a real respect for the original collection, and the breadth of Paul’s ability.
Since 2008, the Design Museum in London have hosted the annual Brit Insurance Designs of the Year exhibition, pulling together the best work from the previoous year into one, substantial showcase. This year’s 100 projects span the usual seven categories, and in celebration of the fantastic work on show every day leading up to the announcement of the overall winner, we will be looking at one category in-depth every day.

LG Mobile Phones is partnering with crowdSPRING and Autodesk® to announce a new competition to define the next generation of mobile communication. If you are a U.S. resident age 18 and older, you can have a chance to design your vision of the next revolutionary LG mobile phone and compete for more than $80,000 in awards. The competition will begin soon, so why not get a head start and exercise your creative imagination now!
Competition: LG Design the Future
This artwork representing the Roman Coliseum was handcrafted character by character over the course of roughly 250 hours. Characters from the Goudy Trajan and Bembo Pro typefaces form the Coliseum, also known as today as Colosseo (Italian) and originally known as Amphitheatrum Flavium (Latin).
Additionally, glyphs have been recreated based on the work of master Italian calligrapher M. Giovambattista Palatino, as featured in Libro di M. Giovambattista Palatino Cittadino Romano, published in Rome around 1550 AD.
Each poster is printed on Somerset Velvet Black or Crane Lettra Pearl and letterpressed by Bryce Knudson of Bjørn Press in Provo, Utah, United States.
