Incredible work from Chicago based sculptor Willy Chyr. The combination of a degree in Physics and a degree in Economics alongside some time spent with Le Vorris & Vox Circus where he learned how to twist balloons has resulted in a series of stunning inflated sculptures.
Balluminescence (pictured), was an interactive installation commissioned by Science Chicago and created for the final signature event, LabFest! in Millennium Park, Chicago last year. The piece engaged participants in the process of creating art inspired by science.

I love art that is done by people who aren’t artists. At the time of writing, Stars Portraits contains 78,336 portraits of famous people, all sent in by different ‘artists’ of varying ability. Of the 429 Bradd Pitt’s, here are eight of my favorite ones. One day, I’d like to curate an exhibition of this kind of art.

The relentless reputation of the French when it comes to mixing/dropping the illest electronic tracks with utter fluency is once again reinforced with this fresh new banger. Jamaica, the Parisian duo formerly known as Poney Poney, recently released ‘I Think I Like U 2’ off their upcoming debut album, produced by Xavier de Rosnay (of Justice) and mastered by Peter Franco (sound engineer, worked on Daft Punk’s ‘Alive 2007’). The quality of the french sound/production is immediately apparent in the track as is the talent and appeal of Jamaica's Antoine Hilaire (vocals/guitar) and Florent Lyonnet (bass/vocals) who are currently working on finishing up the

TAT's Augmented ID project - which we first wrote about in July of last year - has moved a step closer to fruition. Its latest prototype, Recognizr (as featured in the video clip above), uses face recognition software to show a person's social media profiles when you point your mobile device's camera at him/her.

It’s tough keeping a track on futuristic iterations of computers, so backtracking into the forgotten era sometimes spring up surprises. This retro-steampunk gem is a customized work of art which uses lots of wood and a good measure of brass to get in the right effects. As the designers put it “These custom-made keyboards, framed monitors and computers are completely functional, but with a 19th century/ steampunk aesthetic.”

Remember the scene in FRIENDS when Monica finishes vacuuming the room and then removes a small handy vacuum to clean up the big one? The Dustpan Vacuum continues the saga….
Shaped as a dustpan to efficiently gather in all the grime; the vacuum system nestled inside the handle, then sucks up the dirt. Accompanied with its special brush, it gets the job done faster. I’m no Monica, but my desk could sure use this!

The title and images say it all. Mowing lawns suck. It’s a back breaking and boring task unless you have a riding mower. But for those of us with small yards, the Lawnmower Scooter is aces. The electric motor drives the blades and scooter. All the cuttings are stored in a transparent bin in the front. I’m already imagining weekend lawnmower races with my neighbors.

I have a secret obsession with scissors. There’s a room in my home where I do all my clothing work and in a box are scissors from Germany and Japan since they seem to make the best steel. I would love to add one more to my collection from designer Michael Antrobus called Ground Tools. A stunning pair of shears made from carefully bent flat steel bars using homemade jigs and presses. The result is minimal, raw, even primal..

Or a cracklin. How cracked do you want your nuts? Very cracked, or just opened up a little bit? You need those nuts cracked. Walnuts. And if it’s not the winter holiday season, you’re going to look too weird using a traditional nutcracking agent. So what are you gonna do, then, hey? You need this wild thing right here. It’s a walnut yo-yo. Yo! It’s not just for fun. It’s for cracking your nuts.
All you need to do is put the nut in there, yo, re-yo, and bang! Actually you’ve gotta hit something with the yo. You fasten the nut inside the yo, then you yo the yo right into a wall, the floor, or your grandmother, and bang! You’ve got a cracked nut.
And if you don’t have a cracked nut after hitting your grandmother with the Walnut Yo-Yo, you’ll probably be feeling some pain pretty soon.
In the nuts.

If you’re heavy into design, like you’re an addict, you basically can’t stand to see much in your environment that ISN’T put in place by a human being, you’re basically guaranteed to be at least generally alright at both interior and exterior design, the arranging of elements in your environment. And if you are, and you’re a generally make-your-own-profit sort of person in our modern world, you also like to find ways to conserve energy and make things less expensive for yourself. How about harnessing the sun for all of this?
Woo yes! Sunlight! It’s up there shooting out energy and we’ve not even really begun to delve very deeply into the ways we aught to be able to use it. Well let me tell you something. Drzach and Suchy are sticking their fingers into it, and they ain’t getting burnt! Nay! Let’s look at this!
What they’ve created here is called “Piksol,” and it is made to both collect solar energy and create arbitrary patterns and images on a building’s facade. Win? Yes.
Then, in combination with Shadow Casting Panels, these Piksols can be used to create fabulously lovely images that can change dynamically throughout the day as the sun changes positions.
Quite simple, quite smart.
Designers: Drzach & Suchy

Hello there archerists. I know that word is wrong. But you wouldn’t be telling me it was wrong if I had a BOW and ARROWS would you? No way! Having a bow and arrows is totally intense. Completely fierce, and not just Beyonce fierce. Like really wolflike and cougarlike. Comin at ya! And you know this bow is wild if we’re featuring it here on Yanko. We only feature the most fierce! This bow is a Recurve Bow, the kind they use in the Olympics. And you know they only let wolves in that.
This bow is called the “INNO CTX”, designed by a couple of intense designers by the names Won-Jae Lee and Won Jung Shin. Made of X carbon, aka the of the aviation sort, with according to these statistics I read before me in the information provided by the designer, is an 40% increase in intensity over the strength of any other carbon, while at the same time is thinner than any that’s come before it. That, and the elasticity’s increased over 190% compared to the general carbon used today. What’s this do?
It raises the intensity of the handle.
It strengthens the role of the bow as a shock absorber.
And it totally gives you like 100+ points to your archery skills.
Designers: Won-Jae Lee and Won Jung Shin for Win Archery

There's an intresting fight going on between Greeenpeace and Nestle. Greenpeace pointed his arrows on KitKat producer Nestle today, blaming the company for using palm oil (key ingredient for products like KitKat) from producers who destroy rainforrests in Indonesia. To get massive attention, they released the KitKat style commercial below, one with a shocking twist. Nestle replied with a press release, stating it will switch palm oil suppllier, but at the same time they tried to get the commercial down from YouTube. Greenpeace is not impressed by either the press release or the copyright infrigment, and now calls for massive video uploads on any platform. To be continued..

Students Bar-Ter beer caps for semi-awesome stuff. It's a well-known fact, students are relatively poor. They have to choose between spending their little money on beer or food, beer or books, and beer or transportation. The James Ready Bar-Ter Campus Tour was a way for students to have both. Beer and other necessities. Students were encouraged to spend their money on James Ready Beer, collet their beer caps and trade the caps for semi-awesome and useful stuff like detergent, soap, mac n' cheese, socks and so on.

Pretty amazing story. In February, two Russian doctors were killed when their small Citroen smashed head-on into a chauffeur-driven Mercedes carrying LUKoil Vice President Anatoly Barkov.
Police initially blamed the deceased driver of the Citroen, a 36-year old woman named Olga Aleksandrina. But after witnesses came forward, it became clear that Barkov's car was driving in the wrong lane to avoid traffic. Now CCTV footage of the crash has gone missing and police have refused to hand over reports about the accident to the victims' lawyers.
So out comes Russian rapper Noize MC and his viral YouTube video condemning Barkov -- who is in charge of corporate security at LUKoil. From RFE:
The rap video shows footage from the crash site, the small red Citroen crumpled, Aleksandrina's body visible in the driver's seat, and its passenger-side door ripped clean from the car from the force of the crash. In his lyrics, Noize -- a close friend of Aleksandrina's sister -- compares Barkov to Denis Yevsyukov, the former Moscow police officer who recently received a life sentence for killing two people in a supermarket shooting spree.Speaking to RFE/RL's Russian Service, the rapper says he expects problems down the road due to the video, but adds that he has no regrets.
"In this situation, I am not blindly worshiping the principle of the presumption of innocence. If you don't attract attention to the situation dramatically then everything gets hushed up," Noize says.
"[The police] acted quickly and with one specific aim, saying the driver of the Citroen was the guilty party. If I hadn't drawn attention quickly then it would have been easier to cover this up. I understand that I will have a mess to clean up later, but I could not stand on the sidelines."
